Update on Adeline (33 weeks old)

Adeline Frances was born the night of January 13, '08, (9 weeks early), much to our surprise! Carmen had preeclampsia (pregnancy-induced high blood pressure) in which the only cure is to deliver the baby. The doctors and nurses in the NICU at Baptist East tell us that Adeline is doing really well and all signs are positive. She now weighs 3 lbs, 3.3 oz and continues to gain about one ounce per day which is normal at this age. She has been without medication and oxygen for about 10 days and is still being fed with a feeding tube through her nose, since she still has not mastered the suck & swallow reflexes. She is still lacking enough mass to sustain an adequate internal body temperature, so she will have to stay in the isolette for a little while longer. She is very active and we have seen signs of her moving her eyes to follow sounds and motions during our recent visits. God is working in a mighty way in this little angel's life and we can see the love He has for her!
